Johnny Vander Meer’s major league days were well behind him some fourteen years after throwing the only back-to-back no-hitters in MLB history in 1938 for the Cincinnati Red Legs. By 1952, Vander Meer was still playing ball, pitching for the Tulsa Oilers in the Texas League. Facing Beaumont on July 15, Vander Meer found the magic one more time. He walked three, beaned another batter, and one reached on an error. And, only 335 Beaumont Roughneck fans paid for a ticket to witness the feat. According to The Sporting News (23 July 1952, pg. 29), the win brought Vander Meer’s record to 6 – 7.
