Notes from Around MLB

David Delluci has a job; he’ll be joining the Blue Jays.  First though, he’ll play for Las Vegas in AAA.

Charlie Morton got his first start for the Pirates since landing in Pittsburgh as part of the Nate McLouth trade.  Got some good news and bad news.  The good news – no runs allowed.  The bad news – he pulled a hamstring and left after one inning.  Kansas Jayhawk alum Tom Gorzellany got sent to AAA to give Morton his shot, so maybe we’ll see Tommy again soon.

Boston’s Jacoby Ellsbury should be ready to play by the weekend, after injuring his shoulder diving (and making the catch) in a game last weekend.  And, John Smoltz could be making his last rehab start this week – so things are looking up in Boston.

My friend Mike Coe has it, and has had it for a while – Plantar Fasciitis.  It’s taken a long time to heal – so he knows what Carlos Quentin must feel like.  The White Sox hope to have Quentin back after the all-star break, but admit to being optimistic.

On the Mend?  Aaron Miles retured to the Cubs from the DL, and the Astros have assigned both Kaz Matsui and Jose Valverde to Corpus Christi for rehab games.
